Do you want to know what the Matrix is?
pnFlashGames is a module for the popular Content Management System (CMS) called PostNuke (PN), although the module has been successfully installed and used on MD-Pro and Envolution. The purpose of the module is to allow you, the admin, to host games on your website that automatically track user highscores and other information. Why would you want that? Well, there are several reasons why. First of all, because there are lots of cool and fun games out there and this is just one way to share them with your wonderful users. But more to the point, games that are highscore enabled encourage competition among the users. Most users want to be the best, or at least in the top five or ten. By putting this module on your site you are able to use a common trait in human nature to increase traffic to your site. I have had some users report amazing increases in site traffic and return visitors, as much as forty percent. So, a user may come back to check her score on you site just to make sure she is still the Tetris queen, but while checking her score she notices you have a new product for sale on your site... Or she notices a post in your forum that interests her...
Note added 6/24/2004: By way of an updated... Thanks to version 1.0 of the component (commercial component version 2.0), pnFlashGames are now CMS independent, meaning you can use them in several environements. So take note of the context used, some parts of this documentation deal with the PostNuke module called pnFlashGames, and others will refer to games that use the pnFlashGames API.
pnFlashGames is a way to increase the value of your site to your users. It is not for everyone or every site, but I think it would surprise you how many and what kinds of sites are using pnFlashGames. As of this writing, it is by far the most popular module in the PN NOC.
